Wedding Review with Dallas Photographer Rick Porier
As a photographer living in Dallas, I’ve had the privilege of capturing some of the most beautiful weddings over the years. Every wedding is unique and special, and it’s an honor to be able to document this special moment in a couple’s life. There are so many things that I love about photographing weddings; here is one of my favorites.
Meet Jaryn and Heather
It all started off in Denton, Texas. He was going to school at UNT perusing his Bachelor’s degree in Business & Marketing and she was a student at TWU perusing her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy, putting them in the same town working their way through college. He walked into target one day to stock their beer coolers because it was on his work route, but before that, he figured a Java Chip Frappuccino from the Starbucks at the front of Target sounded pretty good. There was a pretty little barista there that made his coffee for him that time and ended up making his coffee just about every time he would come into Starbucks on his work route. He started visiting that Starbucks so much, you know, because of the “Coffee” that Starbucks and Target staff started calling him “Java chip”. One day he didn’t ask for coffee but instead asked her out on a date and the rest is history.
The Setting and Scene
It was a beautiful day in late spring about two hours south of the Dallas Metroplex at Sontebridge Wedding Venue in Blum, Texas. This place is gorgeous and expansive and is such a beautiful place. The weather was perfect, and the wedding ceremony was going to be outside under the biggest oak tree I think I have ever seen. The canopy of the tree literally not only covered the wedding party but also covered all of the attendees as well, with room to spare. You couldn’t ask for a more beautiful backdrop for your wedding day than this.
The Love Story
At its core, photographing a wedding is about capturing two people’s love story—their journey from meeting each other until getting married and starting their lives together. This is something that resonates very deeply with me as I have seen so many couples from different backgrounds come together on their wedding day and commit their lives to one another. Each time I get behind my camera, I’m reminded of how powerful love can be and what an incredible force it can be in our lives!
Weddings are a Photographers Dream Job
As a photographer in Dallas that shoots so many different genres of photography from portraits and headshots to products and drone photography, I often have to consider so many different factors that are already taken care of in a wedding. Take portrait photography for example. When someone wants family portraits or senior portraits or even headshots outside of the studio, then there are a lot of elements to put together to make the photoshoot a success. Finding the right location and wardrobe. What about make-up and styling. Do we need extras to add to the scene to accomplish the vision of the shoot? And the list goes on from there.
When I am shooting a wedding, all of those details are already taken care of. I love all the little details that go into making a wedding day perfect—from the decorations to the floral arrangements and everything in between. As a photographer, having all of those details taken care of, I can focus on using my creative eye to capture moments that tell a story and showcase all these amazing moments, love and interactions wrapped in this beautiful scene and location. It’s the best!

From witnessing joyful reactions to capturing beautiful details and documenting love stories, there is something special about being part of someone else’s big day and creating lifelong memories through photos that will last a lifetime.
