Professional Photography For Your Graduate
It’s that time of year again for professional photographers in Dallas and across the country. Graduation photos and Senior Portraits season is upon us once again. For professional photographers and maybe people with very large families, this is an annual event.
For most individuals though, this only happens a couple of times in your life, and you have worked your butts off for it. A true milestone accomplishment in life that you will look back on with immense pride. Having dedicating years of your life to getting an education and the day has finally come.

A Professional Photographer Is A Must
Do you leave capturing this momentous moment to Cousin Jimmy with his new iPhone Pro with its snazzy camera? I think not! A moment like this deserves the touch of a true professional. You deserve nothing less after accomplishing such a momentous feat of grit and perseverance.

The Proud Father – My Kid is Graduating From Law School
If you are lucky, you may have a father who just happens to be a professional photographer. This one is personal for me since my smart, strong, and beautiful little girl is about to graduate from Law School. I have to say that again. My kid is about to graduate from Law School. My mind is completely blown honestly. This is a big deal y’all! This brilliant child of mine is my hero. She has overcome so much and has so much grit and there is NO WAY I could imagine not having the best photos made to celebrate the event.

The main reason I am writing this blog is to share my immense pride and some of the graduation photos we took this past weekend at St. Mary’s Law School down in San Antonio. I am too proud not to share and brag a little. And these pictures are just too good. I had to share.

My daughter is graduating from Law School with two of her best-friends who were also here bridesmaids at her wedding awhile back. They wanted to do their graduation photoshoot on the campus at St. Mary’s where they will be getting those Law Degrees in May.

Since they are all so close, they wanted to do some of the shoot together as well as some individual graduation shots. We started with individual shots in the Courtroom. And I couldn’t resist grabbing some candid shots of my beautiful little grandbaby and son-in-law (he’s pretty awesome too) here and there.
After doing some of the photoshoot in the Courtroom we moved outside in front of the Law Library for some photos.

After finishing up at the Law Library we made our way across campus with kids, husbands, and all my heavy photography gear and lights in tow.

Our next stop along the way was a spot I noticed with the tower in the background, The morning sun was right behind the tower creating some beautiful rim lighting. I then used my powerful strobe lights as a key light to light up the girls.

Yes, even when you are outside you need lights. The sun is what we photographers call, hard light. Hard light makes really harsh shadows and doesn’t look very good. There are several different techniques to where professional photographers use the Sun as one light and the other lights to pull the image together.

This particular technique uses the sun as a hair or Rim Light and then another light to actually light the subject. This can create a really beautiful effect.

The next location along the way as we moved across campus was closer to the tower. There was this beautiful building I wanted in the background for a few photos. It looked like it was one of the original buildings on the campus.

The Grand Finale – Champagne in the Fountain
Then finally we had made our way across the entire campus to where my daughter was wanting to get shots of her and her compadres in the fountain in front of St. Louis Hall. Now, I didn’t know they were actually going to get into the fountain along with three bottles of champagne. The pictures were epic and the shoot was so much fun. I hope these pictures help them remember the huge sense of accomplishment they felt on this day, the hard work that got them there and the bond they share going through some many milestones in life together. Cheers girls!
