Corporate Headshots on Location

Shooting for Wingstop

We have been doing all of the corporate headshots for Wingstop now for awhile, so I am going to use them as an example in this first part. I guess you could say that we are their unofficial corporate and executive headshot photographers in the Dallas Metroplex. I mean, we haven’t made anything official but, they keep having us back, so we feel somewhat “officially unofficial,” if that makes sense. Anyway, we love working with these guys. Everyone there that we have met is super nice and personable, from the executives on down. Their new corporate headquarters building is pretty awesome too but, it’s also pretty secure in case you were thinking about just showing up and looking for a large cache of Lemon Pepper Wings.

The Process

The last time we were at Wingstop headquarters in Addison we shot over 50 people. A decent size shoot, but we still knocked it out in under 4 hours. That is including setup time (approximately 10 to 15 minutes). That is really moving. This example of doing corporate headshots for Wingstop are very common for us and about the average size. We have also done company events for large companies doing more than 300 headshots for their team. Whatever the size of your team or company event, we have the experience to help you organize the process and make it easy and virtually painless on your end.

Editing all the headshots to be delivered actually takes longer than the shoot itself. Once all of the lighting, equipment and backdrop is setup, it takes about 5 minutes (give or take) for each person. Editing one photo for each person can take between 10 to 20 minutes for each photo for just basic retouching. Since this process isn’t seen it is often not fully appreciated but it’s where the real magic happens. If it is done correctly, it won’t be obvious that it’s been retouched at all but, when you hold it next to the original the difference can be remarkable.

Setting up the Shoot

Setting up a headshot photography session like this for your business location is pretty simple. You just contact us, and we get all the details from you and answer any questions that you may have. It is all really simple and straight-forward and we always try to make things easy for our clients. Once we have all of the details, we will give you an estimate and explain everything that it includes and answer any questions you may have.

Getting a Uniform Look

Having the same setup with your backdrop and the lighting and having everyone shoot at the same time will give you a very uniform look for your images. This can make a subtle but huge difference when they are used together, like on your website for example. Having a uniform look conveys a sense of professionalism and a “buttoned-up” look that will convey competence and instill confidence in your potential clients and customers. Plus, it just looks a hell of a lot better.

Using Your Environment as a Backdrop

You can also do more of a Lifestyle Headshot if you have any interesting areas where we will be shooting. pastedGraphic_7.pngThis incorporates your natural surroundings as the backdrop. That is something that has become more popular over the past few years and it looks really nice if the place we will be shooting has visually appealing areas to shoot. Especially if those areas can convey some sort of feeling that aligns with your companies’ image or brand.

There is also the option of shooting outside. We did a shoot like this recently with the Las Colinas Credit Union. They have a beautiful spot on a canal behind one of their buildings that is a community walk path. Shooting outdoors can be tricky depending on the time of day though, so you need a true professional photographer that has the experience and technical expertise to “Overpower-the-Sun.”

Communication is Key

Your end of things as the client is pretty straight-forward. Just let your team know the day and time of the shoot. Let them know to be well groomed the day before.

  • Guys – Get those nose and ear hairs trimmed. A fresh haircut is always good for the fellas too.
  • Ladies – make sure your base makeup matches your skin tone. All images will be touched-up so, things like pimples and all of that will be erased in photoshop. No need to “cake-it on” to cover up skin blemishes. Check out this article on some good pointers on make-up.
  • Solid colors are better than prints and remember black is going to show every speck of everything. So, if you have dandruff black and other dark colors may not be the best option.
  • A lint roller is also a great idea.
  • Wrinkled clothes and clothes that do not fit don’t look good. People should probably know that but, I would still reiterate that to your team. It happens almost every time on these larger corporate headshot photoshoots. There is always that one person who has the wrinkled shirt or the shirt that doesn’t fit.

*** Reminding your team about the shoot by sending out reminders one week before the shoot and the day before is definitely a best practice.

After the Shoot

After the shoot is done, your professional headshots will be edited and uploaded to a private site just for you. You will be able to download them in two different sizes. One is the full-size, high-resolution image. These files are huge. You do not want to put these on your website, they will kill your SEO (search engine optimization) and hurt your website rankings. The second option is a “Web-friendly” option that restricts the size to 2048 pixels on the long-side (best for social media) or what I usually suggest to corporations, is the smaller 1024 pixel or 640pixel images. You will need to let us know which one before we deliver them so that we can set it up on our end. The larger image size is better if you intend to print them.
